2012 Summer Racing Camp

On the Charles River – Cambridge MA

June through Canadian Henley August 7th

BRC is completely subscribed for 2012

Participation in 2012 is open to all female athletes who will compete as Junior or U23 scullers. We will improve your technique, fitness and competition skills. One of our goals is to provide the kind of rewarding learning experience that encourages our scullers to compete for BRC throughout the year or at least to return on a year-over-year basis. One of the rewards of membership will be the opportunity to train in Florida in January 2013.

Goals:

Finals and better for all crews at Club Nationals and Canadian Henley.

Camp Dates:

In 2011 we had a lightweight quad that formed in early June and went on to compete at U23 Trials. In 2012 we can start earlier for those U23 women who do not have academic commitments past the middle of May -- please contact us. The start date for secondary school rowers will be Monday, 18 June.

Competition:

Scullers will compete at US Club Nationals and/or Canadian Henley.

Competition 11 July - 15 July (US Club Nationals)
Competition 7 August - 12 August (Canadian Henley)

The camp is best fitted to the needs of young women from 14 to 22 years of age with varsity rowing and/or sculling experience.

Erg scores are NOT required but our faster junior scullers have been in the 7:20 - 7:40 range for 2K, with lightweights just slightly slower. Sculling is a power sport and more power normally leads to more medals.

Openings limited: 24 scullers

Swim Test/Physical:

All rowers must demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards and tread water for 10 minutes before attending the camp. You must also submit a copy of a recent physical (past year) which gives clearance for strenuous physical activity.

Daily Schedule

Juniors: Monday-Friday, 9:30AM-12 Noon
Tuesday and/or Thursday, 1:30-3:30PM, for athletes without afternoon commitments
Saturday-Sunday: Regattas as scheduled

U23: normal hours will be early morning and early evening for women with jobs in the middle of the day. If you need to know more details before we post those hours, please contact us.

Events and Travel:

We will select our regatta dates from among the following as appropriate:
25 - 27 June: U23 Trials, Mercer Lake, NJ
8 - 11 July: Junior Trials, Mercer Lake, NJ
8 July: Cromwell Cup Regatta, Cambridge, MA
11 - 15 July: US Rowing Club National Championships, Cherry Hill, NJ
7 - 12 August: Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, St. Catharines, ONT

Equipment:

Scullers will row in singles and doubles most of the time. We will compete in the
small boats as well as the quad where competition is available. There are no junior
lightweight events in the summer, so lightweights have raced up, either as U23
singles and doubles or even Senior quads.

You are encouraged to bring your own boat and oars if you have them.

Our fleet includes late model Hudson, Sykes and Filippi hulls in all
boat classes, across a range of crew weights. We have 24 sets of Croker
blades, so each sculler will have her own set for the summer.

Expenses

Juniors Fees: 4 weeks for $1400 or 8 weeks for $2400
for coaching, equipment use, rowing uni-suit and other gear, as well as entry fees.

Other regatta expenses (travel, hotels) are not included and will be pre-billed according to regatta participation. Contact us if you wish to know past year regatta expenses.

Due with registration: $800 non-refundable deposit

Due by May 19th: the balance
